Hans-Dieter Buschau – GERMANY

Hans-Dieter Buschau’s musical career started in a flute band that was converted into a marching band, where he played the flute and the trumpet. After having become conductor of the band it became very successful and became German Champions. He still is an active musician in a wind band today. He successfully took part in various organizations, e.g. the Lower Saxony Band Association NMV and Drumcorps Germany and Europe. He became a member of WAMSB Judges Bureau in 2007.  He has been a judge in numerous competitions and is an active clinician all over Germany, France, Denmark, Spain, Poland, Ireland, Canada, Malaysia, Brazil, Colombia and the USA including jury assignments in  eight WAMSB world championships.

Besides his job as a public school teacher in the city of Hildesheim Dieter Buschau is Director of Music in the Lower Saxony Music Association, vice Director of Music in BDMV (German Band Federation) and member of the WAMSB Board of Directors.

Edwin Beens – THE NEDERLANDS

Edwin started his marching & music career at a very young age. He started as a drummer when he was 8 years old. After that he became drum major and visual designer. Later he joined the staff of one of Holland’s most successful drum corps of that time, Blue Wave that captured many visual awards. In the winter he joined the Art Development Winter Color Guard and won the Dutch title 3 times. Together with Art Development he travelled to the USA and performed twice at the Winter Guard International World Championships. After his teaching and marching career he started judging in 1996 for many Dutch organizations like Color Guard Netherlands (CGN), and soon after that for International organizations like WAMSB, DCE and so on. In 2000 Edwin became a judge for Winter Guard International, first as a Design Analysis adjudicator, and later also on General Effect. Edwin is the technical director and chief judge of Color Guard Netherlands since 1998 and because of his excellent work was inducted in the CGN Hall of Fame in 2011. To stay current Edwin judges a lot all over the world and he can also be found whenever he can in theaters to watch dance and visual performances or in museums to digest art and explore new areas. Edwin can be found weekly in yoga classes or doing his running exercises. Outside the judging world Edwin works as a Product Owner for the Dutch Ministry of Safety and Justice.

Katarzyna Czyżak – POLAND

Martin Meier – SWITZERLAND

Martin Meier was born 1958 in Gränichen, a small village in Switzerland. After his apprenticeship as a train traffic controller at SBB, he studied Human Resources and Management at the Institute for Applied Psychology in Zürich. His basic training as a conductor started 1990-1993. From 1994 to 1997 he studied part-time in wind orchestra direction at the Zurich University of Music. Since 1991 he is an active conductor of wind orchestras of various strengths and formations, primarily in the Eastern part of  Switzerland. In the army he conducted various military orchestras. Trained as a coach for conductors , he attended various master classes. In June 2018 he successfully completed his training as an international juror at the Federal Academy of Music in Trossingen (Germany). He is regularly invited as a juror in Switzerland and in other countries.

From 2005 to 2020 he was member of the board of the Appenzell Music Association (ABV), vice-president of the education and training department, presiding the music commission. The ABV appointed him as honorary member in 2020. Since 2010 he has been involved as a juror and speaker on leadership issues and personality development for conductors.

Professionally, he worked for over 35 years as a Human Resources Manager in various companies before he decided to retire in June 2023. Music always plays a very important part in his everyday life. He still plays in various orchestras as guest on the French horn.

Privately, he lives in Lutzenberg, canton Appenzell, together with his wife. Besides music, his hobbies are working in the care team (crisis intervention), travelling, visiting concerts, cooking, good wines and trips as a temporary driver at Postauto AG.

Wlodzimierz Smolarek – POLAND

Włodzimierz Smolarek – absolwent Wojskowe Liceum Muzyczne w Gdańsku w klasie klarnetu, studiów magisterskich w zakresie muzykoterapii w Akademia Muzyczna w Łodzi, studiów podyplomowych w zakresie dyrygentury orkiestr dętych w Akademia Muzyczna w Poznaniu oraz studiów podyplomowych w zakresie zarządzania kulturą na Uniwersytet Łódzki.

Był muzykiem solistą i koncertmistrzem Orkiestra Wojskowa w Szczecinku.

Od 25 lat związany z pracą z orkiestrami amatorskimi. Obecnie prowadzi orkiestry dęte w województwie łódzkim i wielkopolskim oraz pełni funkcję instruktora sekcji instrumentów dętych drewnianych. Gościnnie prowadzi warsztaty z innymi orkiestrami.

Jako dyrygent występował z orkiestrami na wielu festiwalach w Polsce oraz za granicą, m.in. w Finlandia, Austria, Niemcy i na Węgry.

Za działalność artystyczną i pracę z orkiestrami dętymi został wyróżniony m.in. tytułem Zasłużonego Działacza Kultury powiatów poddębickiego i łaskiego.

Katarzyna Lisicka – POLAND

Absolwentka Państwowa Szkoła Muzyczna I i II stopnia im. Karola Szymanowskiego              w Płocku (klasa waltorni), Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego – Wydział Pedagogiczny oraz Akademia Muzyczna im. I. J. Paderewskiego w Poznaniu, gdzie ukończyła specjalność Dyrygentura Orkiestr Dętych i Edukacja Muzyczna.

Dyrygentka, pedagog i jurorka, od ponad 17 lat związana z Miejska Szkoła Muzyczna              I stopnia im. Romualda Twardowskiego w Gostyninie, gdzie prowadzi chór, zespoły instrumentalne oraz przedmioty teoretyczne. Założycielka i wieloletnia dyrygentka Gminnej Orkiestry Dętej Foxodeon Gminy Gostynin, z którą aktywnie współtworzyła życie kulturalne regionu, koncertując także poza granicami kraju. Autorka aranżacji i transkrypcji na orkiestrę dętą, chór i zespoły instrumentalne, w tym projektów fonograficznych. Prowadzi warsztaty orkiestrowe i chóralne oraz była prelegentką Ogólnopolskich Konferencji Orkiestr Dętych w Radomiu.

Jurorka i sędzia Stowarzyszenie Polskie Orkiestry Dęte, regularnie ocenia zespoły podczas festiwali i przeglądów w całej Polsce. W 2024 roku nominowana do tytułu Osobowość Roku w kategorii Kultura za działalność artystyczną i wychowawczą.

Paul Doop – THE NEDERLANDS

Paul is a sought-after clinician, adjudicator and consultant in the marching performing arts activity.  He was a percussion member of elite groups such as the Concord Blue Devils, The Reading Buccaneers and the Band of the Royal Dutch Cavalry.

As instructor, designer, arranger, and consultant he worked with bands and drum corps from all over the world including The Canton Blue Coats, The Colts and many (inter)national award-winning Championship bands. Under his direction his groups won a total of 17 National Championships, 15 Best Drum Trophies and 7 Indoor Percussion Gold Medals and 12 finalist medals.

He serves as program consultant for many bands in Europe. All of these bands have won medals and awards at high profile international competitions such as the WMC. He has consulted with bands from all over Europe including The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Denmark.

Paul was instrumental in setting up the One World Adjudication system, used by many international organizations such as WAMSB, WMC, LGF (Denmark), KNMO (The Netherlands), VLAMO (Belgium), SIPAA (Sweden) and  IMSB (Italy). In 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2022 he was member of Technical Advisory Committee for the World Music Contest (WMC) where he also served as Overall Chief Judge. As an adjudicator he has judged all over the world most of the countries in Europe, Asia, the USA, Canada and Mid- and South America. Among them are several WAMSB World Championships. His captions: Overall Effect, Music Effect, Visual Effect, Visual Ensemble, Percussion and Drum Battles.

Paul is Board Member of the KNMO (Royal Dutch Music Organization) and Chairman of CGN, the largest organization for the indoor performing arts in Europe. For his work in the performing arts activity, King Alexander of the Royal Kingdom of The Netherlands appointed him the prestigious Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. He is the only European member on the jury board of the Sudler Shield of the John Philip Sousa Foundation. Paul has been inducted in the Hall of Fame of CGN (The Netherlands) and SIPAA (Sweden) for his work for the marching performing arts in Europe. Paul is managing director for a consultancy firm specialized in Strategy and Change management.

prof. Mirosław Kordowski – POLAND

Jest absolwentem Wojskowego Liceum Muzycznego w Gdańsku.

W roku 2001 ukończył Akademię Muzyczną w Gdańsku na Wydziale Instrumentalnym w klasie saksofonu u prof. Marka Schillera oraz Uniwersytet Kazimierza Wielkiego w Bydgoszczy na Wydziale Edukacji Muzycznej w klasie dyrygentury u prof. Sylwestra Matczaka.

5 czerwca 2024 roku otrzymał tytuł naukowy Profesora nadany przez Prezydenta Rzeczypospolitej.

Wykładowca akademicki, obecnie na Uniwersytecie Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu.

Laurent wielu międzynarodowych konkursów dyrygentury orkiestr. Juror.

Prowadził w swojej karierze wiele orkiestr i big bandów w Polsce i za granicą.
